Happy New Year! It appears 2012 is officially here, which means it is also officially election year... not just for the Presidential race, but also for local positions, including judges.
Not-so-coincidentally, I just received my official Pierce County Superior Court Judicial Evaluation Survey. The survey is a compilation of all the superior court judges and commissioners and is given to local attorneys for evaluation. The general questions are based upon an attorney's perception and dealings with the various judges/commissioners. They focus on the judge's handling of parties and attorneys that appear before them, as well as the judge's knowledge of court rules and issues of law.
I will refrain from giving my personal evaluation and opinion of our local judges, but if you are interested in learning more about local judges when it comes election time, there is a very helpful website out there VotingForJudges.org. The website provides very useful information about judicial elections and also compiles various news articles that come out about various judges throughout the State of Washington.
As for the judicial survey of Pierce County Judges, the News Tribune usually runs a story about the evaluations later in the year after the survey results are in. For the previous evaluations here is a link to News Tribune.
